The Launch 2014 – Day 1

Screen Shot 2014-04-05 at 7.56.47 PM

Day one of Snowboarder Mag’s, the Launch, took off yesterday. Unfortunately the weather, as has been the case at so many other events this season, did not cooperate. Riders tried to make the best of it by sessioning Seven Springs’s amazing “The Streets” park. Red ended up having a blast. Check out Snowboarder Mag‘s site for some shots of Red playing in “The Streets”.

Here is what T-Bird had to say about Red and friends: There was a plethora of talent up there today, as SNOWBOARDER movie roster riders Spencer Schubert, Hans and Nils Mindnich, Sam Taxwood, and Garrett Warnick were sessioning the wall with Red Gerard, Brock Crouch, Toby Miller, Reid Smith, Judd Henkes, and some of the young tykes…

Much more went down and it’ll all be in the videos and photos accompanying these words. For now, be sure to keep up-to-date with all the happenings in Seven Springs because the weather is supposed to break and the next two days are calling for warm, sunny temperatures which only means that the riding is going to heat up.

Watch The Launch webcast LIVE, on Snowboardermag.com on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 1-3pm EST.

SEEREDSHRED has moved to REDGERARD.NET

For the 2 or 3 loyal followers of seeredshred,  We have moved! All your favorite info on Red can now be found at redgerard.net. Make note of the .net because an anonymous lover or hater (Red is hoping it is the former, that it is a she… and that she is hot!), has taken up the domain name redgerard.com and has a single post of Red’s face – sweet!

SEVEN SPRINGS – PARADISE FULL MOVIE

Check out what Red and some Burton buds were up to at Seven Springs last spring. It’s all good, but Red and the gang don’t weigh in until 08:30. Favorite part – 11:24 during the credits when Red asks if he can drive the snowmobile, answer – I don’t know dude, I think you gotta be at least three feet tall to drive. Red’s response – Dude, I’m four feet!

BURTON PRESENTS RESORT [SNOWBOARDING]

In the fourth and final episode, Burton Presents RESORT [SNOWBOARDING] features the riding of Mark McMorris, Danny Davis, Peetu Piiroinen, Jack Mitrani, Christian Haller, Werni Stock, Roope Tonteri, Marko Grilc, Ben Ferguson, Gabe Ferguson, Redmond Gerard, and more. From Danny’s signature Peace Park session at Squaw Valley and the Streets at Seven Springs, to massive man-made features, this group of riders has again raised the bar on park riding.

A COBRA DOG SUMMER

Snowboarder Mag’s, Mary Walsh gave this video her “staff pick” as a favorite. There is some great snowboarding here mixed in with plenty of fun. There are small clips of Red skateboarding and messing around, but at 7:57 there are some nice shots. Check it out and see what you think.

RELATIVELY SPEAKING: BRENDAN AND RED GERARD

This interview is a little old to be posting now (it was done last spring before Superpark), but I guess better late than never. There is some really good footage of Red’s brother Brendan – also old, but still good. Check out the article for yourselves and see what you think: Snowboarder Mag

Burton Smalls Going Big

20130718-sumergames-redgerard-e-stoneAbove is a cool shot from High Cascade this past summer. Below is a video that was made over a year ago at HCSC. I am assuming that Burton is just releasing it now because it’s a promotion for the 2014 line. I found it on Method Mag, here is what Method had to say:

What are these kids drinking? Energy milk? Holy cow, they are good. Check out Brock Crouch, Red Gerard, Gabe Ferguson, and Nik Baden tear apart Mt. Hood’s summer glacier.

The Burton Team Destroys Summer

Screen Shot 2013-08-21 at 12.05.56 PMWords from Burton site:

While you were busy boogie boarding and sweating on your hot leather sofa, the Burton Team was lapping jumps and jibs in both hemispheres. Jeremy Jones, Mikkel Bang, Mark McMorris, Peetu Piiroinen, Roope Tonteri, Enni Rukajärvi, Gabe Ferguson, Red Gerard, Zak Hale, Ethan Deiss, Jussi Oksanen, Kimmy Fasani, Mark Sollors, and Mikey Rencz all got in on the action. Here’s a little edit of them ripping the parks of Hood’s High Cascade and Snow Park, NZ (RIP) to get you primed for winter. To view the video click the link below, Red can be seen 50 seconds in:

SUMMER SNOWBOARDING: MUST-DO’S AT MOUNT HOOD

Taken from Snowboarder Mag:

Play dodge ball at HCSC, cliff jump at Punchbowl Falls and on off days go to the movie theater in Sandy. One of my very favorite things to do is just to have a regular skate day at Windell’s, which there really isn’t anything regular about at all! Then of course there is always Lake Trillium, and more cliff jumping along the Columbia River. - Red Gerard – young shred and the unofficial mayor of Mount Hood

Gerry Lopez Big Wave Challenge – First Place Keiki Division (16 and under)

IMG_1901

Words from Frequency:

With a Luau, traditional Hawaiian cuisine and a series of unique course features with names like “Puerto Escondido,” “Ala Moana Bowl,” and “Steamer Lane,” the 2013 Big Wave Challenge at Mt. Bachelor proved to be an impressive surf-style competition. Every rider was judged on his or her choice of the features used, the difficulty of each individual trick performed on those features and his or her overall flow through the course. First place for the men went to Gus Warbington, with Coleen Quigley sealing women’s first place; Red Gerard won the groms and Gorden Boehm brought home the master’s top spot.

Arnette

Arnette posted these photos and captions on their site, kind of funny so I thought I would share:

SUPERPARK 17 – DAY 5 PHOTO….and finally… DAY 5 VIDEO

Red’s first Superpark has come to an end. As with all Snowboarder Mag events, he had a blast. Thanks to everyone who helped get him where he needed to be. I know you’ll probably never read this, but special thanks to Frankie, Red’s Burton TM, and of course Pat and T-Bird for giving Red a shot at getting to do what he loves! Here is a last shot from Day 5.

If they ever put some photos up, I will share with you Red’s win at the Gerry Lopez Big Wave Challenge, which took place at Bachelor the day after Superpark ended. Red took first in the Keiki division (16 and under). He LOVES the trophy!

Here is the Day 5 video, Spencer Schubert and Red switch boards in the opening, there’s another shot of Red at 2:08, but check out what Scotty Vine does for the ender, pretty incredible!

Superpark 17 – Day 4

Red decided not to participate in the final webcast yesterday. SNOWBOARDER Magazine’s Battle of the Brands gives out a trip to Cabo for the best team edit from Superpark, and Red was eager to be a part of Burton’s attempt to best them all. Unfortunately the filming session was cut short by the threat of lightening – on to the skatepark! Red is looking forward to a last day on the hill just cruising with friends today. Saturday Red will take part in the Gerry Lopez Big wave Challenge at Mt. Bachelor.

No pictures of Red today for Day 4, but in gathering final thoughts about the significance of Superpark (which in my mind is growing bigger every year and the addition of the webcast only helps to elevate it by allowing snowboard enthusiasts a chance to get in on the action) he was mentioned in the recap. Words, SnowboarderMag:

There aren’t many places—scratch that, there’s no other places—where you can watch Seb Toots, Dylan Alito, Roope Tonteri, and Red Gerard session a hip together

Superpark 17 – Day 3 Video

Since this site is supposed to be a gathering of info and photos on Red I will open up with some words from the Day 3 recap on SnowboarderMag‘s site. To read the recap in it entirety (strongly recommended) just click on the link:

This may have been one of the gnarliest sessions I have ever seen in real life. The Mindnich brothers once again provided a solid offering, lapping the hip countless times with back rodeo Taipans from Hans and huge front 360 stalefishes from Nils. Garrett Warnick landed an impressive back seven, along with a smooth back five melon to crystal method. Kim-Rune Hansen was destroying, along with Charles Reid, Annie Boulanger, Sam Taxwood, Austen Sweetin, Zach Normandin, and little Red Gerard, who all put down serious hammers time and time again.

Hope you all are enjoying the live webcasts. Day 3′s action was crazy, with incredible performances from Hans and Nils Mindnich, Sam Taxwood and others. Roope Tonteri had multiple attempts at a double Michalchuk but couldn’t seem to put it down until the webcast finally decided to close up shop. But of course, as soon they did Roope stomped it. Luckily it is captured here in the ender of the Day 3 video. Check out Red and his friends Gabe and Brock one right after the other in the opening, and another shot at about 3:30.

Superpark 17 – Day 2 Video

Superpark 17

The first live webcast of Superpark 17 has gone down. What an exciting way to get those of us not skilled enough to be up there, in on the action. If you missed it, I am told it will be available to replay, I will post a link when it is posted. 25 riders were selected to participate on the jump created by Loon Mountain and we saw some amazing stuff get thrown. Red said he almost threw his double but then the lighting got flat and it started to rain, maybe another day (I am told that a full part edit including Red’s double was just completed so stay tuned on that front). Make sure not to miss days 2 and 3 of the live webcast, starting at 1:30 PST today and same time on Thursday as well. Want to check out the Day 2 video? Just click on the “Home” tab for all the latest posts. Below is a photo from Day 2, both are taken directly from SnowboarderMag‘s site:

SNOWBOARDERMAG’S 2013 LAUNCH “SUPERGROMS” EDIT

942110_649172848441460_1643944353_nWords take directly from Snowboarder Mag‘s site:

Once again The Launch proved itself to be the most important event in snowboarding for showcasing up and coming talent. The level of riding that went down at Bear was all time with some seriously next level tricks going down at an almost minute by minute basis. One of the most impressive things about this year’s Launch however was how hard the younger crew pushed things, not content to just lap the public park and jib the sides of the jumps, this year’s Supergrom crew packed up and snaked their way into sessions along side the older crew on the hips, jibs and big jumps. While a lot of older kids sat down or found reasons not to hit things the younger squad led by Red Gerard, Cody Warble, Gabe Ferguson, and Brock Crouch had the time of their lives at Bear riding everything and often times packing up and hitting everything together. We dubbed them the “Supergroms” and as you watch this try to think just what you were doing at 12 years old.

THE LAUNCH – DAY 4 RECAP

As usual, it is always sad to see the Launch wrap up. It is such an awesome event. Riders push themselves, get creative and share in both camaraderie and a whole lot of fun!

T-Bird wrote a nice summation of the event that you should really go check out at Snowboarder Mag. I will paste the parts pertaining to Red below, but you are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t read it in its entirety.

…With The Launch, the ultimate objective is to assemble the world’s best riders under the age of 21 not only in order to introduce themselves to their peers and get a chance to lap with those they might never have the chance to, but also to provide a unique and inviting setup to allow these kids to think outside the box and expand their vision of what snowboarding is and can be…

In the afternoon, what may be the most varied session of the event went down. With some of the riders lagging from three long days on hill, the stragglers were intermingled on a hip session and they included Jordan Smalls, Red Gerard, Toby Miller, Milo Malkoski, Zach Normandin, Ezra Racine, Matt Penny, Jacob Krugmire, Chris Bradshaw, Lucas Magoon, Ryan Tarbell, Jacob Aaronson, and a few other kids leftover helping finish off the event. Let me tell you one thing. I you’ve ever had the chance to watch a session with Gooner, Bradshaw, Red Gerard, and Toby Miller, then you’re one lucky reader. Everyone was pushing each other in very odd ways, evidenced by Bradshaw opting to air out twenty feet over the deck while tweaking like only he can. The hip session turned a mellow day into one of the most productive of the four and at the day’s end, we called the event around four to let everyone rest up and heal.

…These are the kids that are tomorrow’s opinion leaders, trend setters, video part ender producers, contest juggernauts, and product pushers. These are the kids that will save snowboarding, and as the mainstream media continues to claim that snowboarding is simply a fad and it will soon go away, I personally know about eighty kids that couldn’t disagree more, and they’re dead set on proving the naysayers wrong. In other words, The Launch 2013 Presented by Volcom may be done, but this is just the beginning of something very, very big.

SNOWBOARDER MAG – THE LAUNCH – DAY 3

Here is an abbreviated version of the words and pics, taken directly from Snowboarder Mag‘s site. To get the whole story, and see all the great shots, go to SnowboarderMag.com

words: Mary Walsh

…Over the past six years, SNOWBOARDER Magazine has hand-selected cadres of up and coming riders and worked with some of the best park builders in the US to create playgrounds progressive enough to compliment the level of talent. Many young snowboarders have set the first flag of their snowboarding career within the run-ins and landings of The Launch parks. Mark McMorris, Tyler Flanagan, Garrett Warnick, Jamie Anderson, Sage Kotsenburg, Trevor Jacob, Greg Bretz, Sarka Pancochova, Johnny Lazz, Seb Toots, Forest Bailey, Zak Hale, Stale Sandbech, and more have all made turns at the Launch.

…The youngest snowboarders at The Launch sped through the park all day with boundless energy. Hour after hour, Cody Warble, Brock Crouch, Red Gerard, Toby Miller, and crew lapped the park in a tight collective, airing effortlessly out of the hip, sessioning the double rail on the smaller quarterpipe, and throwing snowballs at one another. These kids, half as tall as many of the other riders at The Launch, are next level. They boosted one-by-one over the bottom jump, a line of brightly-colored sweatshirts and black helmets, with style far beyond their years riding. If the abilities first wave of Launch groms are any indication of the future of this current crew, we’re more than excited to watch them grow up, and maybe blow up.

The last day of The Launch is tomorrow and the enders are going to be good. Follow #TheLaunch2013 on Instagram and check SNOWBOARDER Magazine’s Facebook page for updates…

Ok, while he didn’t get Rookie of the Year, but you have to admit there was some pretty big competition there, I mean Danimals and Brandon Hobush? With a fresh six inches of powder and some colder temperatures, it felt like the Winter Season had finally arrived. The 2012-13 So-Gnar Shred Circuit Contest Series kicked off the season with the folks from Woodward @ Copper for Shred Circuit Stop #1. The Woodward Park Crew built a fun, early season ultra creative set-up which the riders definitely destroyed and sessioned together feeding off of each others energy to see who will be taking home the 1st qualifying spot for Shred Circuit Finals at Winter Park Resort April 13. With pow landings and some super technical tricks, the event was a blast. The Red Bull MXT provided great sound for the competitors to get their early season hiking in and win a bunch of great gear from the tour sponsors. All photography is courtesy of Chris Faronea and Tripp Fay. Next Shred Circuit Contest Stop will be held on Saturday, December 1st at Loveland Ski Area, Colorado in conjunction with So-Gnar’s 1st Stop of the 2-day Snowboard Camp Tour season.
